WHY MOTOLOGIC
Motologic was founded in 2007 by Director, Paul Free. Established in Campbellfield in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, Paul and his team carried out both general servicing and specialised work on all makes and models of motorcycle, both on-road and off-road. Motologic quickly gained a reputation as the go-to for all motorcycle needs.
Paul’s knowledge of motorcycles and racing stems from his life-long love of riding and a successful career as a road racer both in Australia and overseas. Paul competed successfully in the Australian road racing championships through the 90’s and even had a small taste of the World Supersport Championship in 2000.
In 2002, after retiring from racing, Honda Australia employed Paul to re-establish their factory Superbike team. In 2004 and 2005, Paul lead the team to consecutive 600 Supersport and Superbike Championships and two Manufacturer’s Cups in a row. In 2007, Motologic became the race team headquarters for Honda Australia’s Superbike racing team as Paul made the bold decision to start his own company.
In 2008, Paul took his race team to another Superbike Championship title. With many podium finishes in between, Team Honda Racing won the 2014 Australasian Superbike Championship and took all 3 podium positions in one of their most successful seasons to date. 2015 was another great year with Troy Herfoss winning the Australasian Superbike Championship. In 2016, Herfoss was again the Australian Superbike Champion but this time it was in the revitalised Motorcycling Australia run ASBK series.
At the end of 2017, Paul decided it was time for new challenges and did not renew his Motologic contract with Honda. Instead, opting for a warmer climate, Paul and his family closed up Motologic and relocated to the Gold Coast.
The knowledge and experience cultivated throughout 15 years of working in racing with Honda and owning Motologic gives Paul Free an edge in the motorcycle industry. Paul was heavily involved in the technical side of race bike development and for many years carried out all the suspension changes personally. At Motologic, Paul worked not only on race bikes, but road bikes for customers across all brands.
His credentials speak for themselves. As the doors were being closed on the Melbourne-based Motologic, Paul received a call from Troy Bayliss who explained he was staging a comeback on the Australian racing scene with Ducati and asked if Paul would be interested in working with him. Of course, Paul did not need to be asked twice when offered a position with Desmo Sport Ducati as Crew Chief and head of the technical direction of the 1299FE being ridden by Bayliss.
Bayliss’ achieved impressive results considering the amount of time he had spent out of top-end competition, however, an accident at the first event ultimately took Bayliss out of the championship hunt. With Troy injured, the team gave Mike Jones the opportunity to ride the Ducati for the remainder of the 2019 season. Working alongside Paul Free, Mike adapted to the 1299FE quickly and went on to win the Australian Superbike Championship series for 2019.
The following years of Covid were of course difficult on the racing scene. Paul began working once again with the Honda team for the few events that were possible during the pandemic, but spent the majority of this time building his suspension business on the Gold Coast.
2023 has been a fantastic year for Paul, both in Motologic and the Penrite Honda race team. After a hard fort season long battle Troy Herfoss won the Australian Superbike Championship in fine style by taking pole position in qualifying and winning both races of the final round at Tailembend Raceway. Motologic has been appointed as the Australian distributor of Bitubo Suspension, an iconic Italian brand with a long history of success on and off the race track. Outside of that Motologic continues to grow as a leader in chassis and suspension set-up improvements for all levels of rider, across all brands.
